Most managers will agree that they must be approachable to their subordinates. Ifyou ask them ifthey consider themselves to be approachable, most will say yes. However, ifyou ask their subordinates, confidentially, if they consider the boss to be approachable, you—and the managers— may be surprised at the answers. Many ofthem will be seen by their staffs as somewhat less than approachable.
