Traditionally, nursing students have been involved with community health by spending time partnering with an experienced clinician in the community for a portion of a community or home health class. The emphasis of such clinical experiences is on the role of the nurse in the community, promoting health of the client and family in the community and care modifications to support the client and family within their own environment. Some courses require a community assessment to identify key health issues and available resources.
