Isi artikel
In recent years. there has been a growing interest in information integration, whose goal is to access, relate, and combine data from multiple sources. Indeed, information integration is one of the core problems in distributed databases, cooperative information systems. and data warehousing. which are key areas in the software development industry. This paper investigates the possibility of obtaining meaningful information from multiple databases. without disturbing the local autonomy. by introducing an integration approach that exploit the similarity in meta level information and performs a metadata mining on database objects to discover a set of concepts common to heterogeneous database within the same application domain. The architecture proposed here utilizes the background knowledge and any information available in database structures and usage patterns, to generate a set of concepts that serves as a domain abstraction to provide a conceptual layer above existing legacy systems. The architecture proposed here is based on the DARPA 13 reference architecture to provide a wrapping service that uses meta level information from component databases to generate a set of generic concepts common to the application domain.
