Islamic medicine is not only a history of its glory in the past, but also contains important contemporary issues that should be learned and understood. There are some important ethical issues in contemporary Islamic medicine like stem cell research and application, organ transplantation, cloning, and euthanasia. These issues have common ethical aspects including morality, responsibility, informed consent, the benefit of study result, and the justice in using limited resources. Stem cell is a very important development in medical science. Therefore, Indonesia as a developing country with a large majority of Moslems should develop stem cell research using "halal" methodology, resources and governed btJ regulations that reflect Islamic values.
