Isi artikel
Home health nurses need to assess their clients for signs and symptoms of insomnia and intervene to help eliminate it. Most adults need 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night, although some may need as few as 5 hours or as many as 10 hours of sleep (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2001). Nearly everyone occasionally suffers from short-term or transient insomnia that lasts a few days to 4 weeks. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (American Psychiatric Association, 2000), a diagnosis of long-term or primary insomnia may be assigned when clients are having difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep or are having nonrestorative sleep that lasts for at least 1 month.
