This paper describes an information system for academic administration at STT Telkom using Short Message Service (SMS). The system consists of three modules. Firstly, Registration: registration for subjects of studies in a new semester. Secondly, Academic Data: accessing data about Grade Index for all subjects of studies in a requested semester, Grade Point Average for First Year, Diploma Degree, and Bachelor Degree. Thirdly, Message Service Group (MSG): like a mailing list, but using SMS. By using MSG, lecturers can broadcast any information to their students, such as canceling a course in this week, conducting quiz on Thursday, canceling examination, etc. Both modules 1 and 3 were developed using Linux operating system, Gnokii device driver, Nokia data suite, and MySQL database. Module 2 was developed using Windows 2000 Advanced Server, TOxygen SMS Plus device driver, Nokia data suite, and MS-Access 2000. Test result, using a Pentium II server, shows that module 1 is capable of handling 466 requests an hour. If every student needs 5 requests in a registration, the first system is capable of handling 4000 students in 43 hours. Module 2, using Pentium III server, is capable of servicing 531 requests an hour. And module 3, using Pentium IV server, is capable of broadcasting 537 SMS messages an hour.
