Isi artikelIt can be said that the Eucharist has been instrumental in bringing to people’s consciousness a corporate experience of and a sense of being actively in communion with the whole Church as the community gathers around the table of the Lord. Yet, how is it that nearly 40 years after the Second Vatican Council, diocesan renewal teams and various groups of Christians are still trying to articulate sacramental doctrine in a way that it will fully and unreservedly embrace the ever-changing face of the Church? In the attempt to capture the same Spirit that energized the early apostolic Church, the authors of Sacrosantum Concilium (SC) [Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy] set as their goal for the Council and the universal Church • to intensify the daily growth of Catholics in Christian living: to make more responsive to the requirements of our times those Church observances which are open to adaptation; to nurture whatever can contribute to the unity of all who believe in Christ...” (SC, 1) [Abbot 1996].
