Isi artikelInculturation is a slow process in the Church today as it is seen as the adaptation of the gospel from the Judaic and Greco-Roman world to other cultures. Spontaneity is smothered when gestures and symbols are imposed. So argues Michael Amaladoss in Liturgical Inculturation and Postmodern Culture. Like the Corinthians, fidelity to ritual may be observed, but, if the poor go hungry and women are discriminated against, ritual may be a counter witness. Amaladoss focuses on the challenges of postmodern culture to the liturgical celebration and suggests a re examination of the roles of the community and the presider, and an appreciation of the pluralism of cultures.
