Isi artikelThis article explores the way characters are tracked in two time travel stories by Robert Heinlein, ‘By His Bootstraps’ and ‘All You Zombies –’, using Emmott’s (1997) model of narrative comprehension. The analysis shows the contributions made by Emmott’s model in explaining an author’s choice of devices to aid or obstruct the reader’s identification of characters. In addition, a minor extension to Emmott’s theory is proposed to account for some aspects of the style in ‘All You Zombies –’.
