Isi artikel
This study examined effects of a physical activity health promotion program using constructs from the transtheoretical model. Data were collected from 690 participants prior to the program beginning (T1), upon conclusion of the program (T2), and at a three-month follow-up (T3). Although 86.7% of the participants were already doing some physical activity prior to program initiation, 40.1% were not exercising regularly. From T1 to T2 (8 weeks), 69.3% of those who could advance in stage of exercise did so, and 3.2% regressed. From T2 to T3 (3 months postintervention), 19.4% advanced and 33.2% regressed, however, from T1 to T3, 62.3% remained stable, 40.4% advanced, and only 12.9% regressed. Self-efficacy and decisional balance scores differentiated between stages of exercise at all three test periods. During this physical activity health promotion program, participants’ stages of exercise behavior underwent overall positive transitions. This may prove to be effective in identifying changes occurring in similar programs.
