Isi artikel
The Healthy People 2010 objectives include, for the first time, objectives addressing the delivery of quality health education by health care providers and managed care organizations both in the health care setting and in the community (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [US DHHS], 2000). Patient education provided by health care organizations has been given an increasing priority by accrediting organizations such as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO, 2000). Increasingly, organizational and clinical outcome measurements are being used to evaluate the effectiveness of patient education programs. An expert panel presentation on patient education was developed by the SOPHE Medical Care Special Interest Group and presented at the 50th Annual SOPHE Meeting on November 6, 1999. Following are excerpts from that panel presentation.
