Isi artikel
As befits the work of a man who was old in years but who always evinced the intellectual originality and energy of a young scholar, Tang Tsou's last publication represents his first, preliminary statement on what was for him a new project: a magisterial “multivolume study of the revolution in China” (Tsou, 2000 [this issue]). On the title page of the typescript, he wrote, “Comments, particularly those with suggestions of books and articles for further reading, are welcome.” When I last saw him just three weeks before his death, he had just learned of his kidney failure and was angry because he feared that it would deprive him of the three years he needed to complete it. Yet even this prolegomenon to his new project forms a veritable cadenza to his career it takes well-developed themes from his previous work in exciting, provocative, and intriguing new directions.
