Isi artikelThis research was concerned with developing a diagnostic test to measure the concepts of an atom model and the concepts of particle-wave dualism. The main objective of the research was to develop a set of diagnostic tests which would be used to find out the percentage of students who still misunderstood, who partially understood, and those who correctly understood the concepts of an aloni model and of particle-wave dualism. This research was non-experimental and the respondents were 31 physics students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Syiah Kuala University who were give?? a written diagnostic test after the students covered or studied 75% of quantum physics of the whole material for a semester. The data were analyzed using the Certainty of Response Index (CR1) and correlational statistics. The results of data analyses showed that 50.6% of students still misunderstood, 33.6% partially understood, and only 2.8% correctly understood the concepts of an atom model. The results of data analyses using a correlational method showed that students who misunderstood the concepts of an atom model and of particle-wave dualism were influenced by the weakness (r = 0.17) of understanding the concepts qf basic mechanics (Newton Law). The diagnostic test which was developed in this research can be used as a standard lest to measure student understanding of quantum physics, particularly the concepts ofan atom niodel and the concepts ofparticle-wave dualism. Data which were collected from the implementation of the diagnostic test can be used to remedy the misunderstanding of the concepts of an atom model and the concepts of particle wave dualism. The researchers suggest that a remedial be implemented by using an Independent Learning Module of Quantum Physics or a visualization method with PC software.
