Isi artikelAssociate editor of Health Promotion Practice Ellen Jones interviewed the executive director of the Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium (TTAC), Dearell Niemeyer, for this issue. Mr. Niemeyer is widely known in the field of tobacco prevention and control and has held leadership positions in the California Department of Health Services, the American Stop Smoking Intervention Study for Cancer Prevention (ASSIST) Coordinating Center (National Cancer Institute), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Office on Smoking and Health. Over the past 25 years Mr. Niemeyer has served as a health promotion and education advocate, often facilitating the link between research and practice. His broad understanding of the challenges faced by the field of health promotion and education contributed to the richness of this interview. He has been honored by many professional organizations and is the recipient of the Association of State and Territorial Directors of Health Promotion and Public Health Education (ASTDHPPHE) Health Promotion and Education Advocacy Award and the Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
