WHAT IS A HEALTH EDUCATION CONSULTANT AND WHAT DOES ONE DO? A consultant is a professional who is hired for his or her expertise to provide a specific service for an individual or organization. The duration of employment is finite in terms of the length of time that services are provided and the fee the consultant will be paid. A public health education consultant may provide services to a local health department, a voluntary health organization, a health maintenance organization, a visiting nurse association, a hospital, or other organizations.
