BThe response to the premier issue of Health Promotion Practice has been extremely positive. Unveiled at the SOPHE 50th Anniversary Meeting in Chicago, this new journal has sparked the interest of many health educators from various settings in writing for a practice-based audience. Over 50 manuscripts were submitted for peer review in the first year of the journal's operation since we issued the guidelines for authors in January 1999. We are encouraged by the response as told to the associate editors, members of the editorial advisory board, the SOPHE board, and others and by the positive response as measured by the number of submissions. We feel that with a great start, we are still striving to make this journal the best product for our audience. The journal's mission statement as presented in Issue 1 will continue to define the work of this important endeavor. It guides our editorial submission policy, manuscript reviews, and the editorial discussions we have held since we started working on the journal.
