In the Eastern Orthodox tradition, there is a broad sense of the word "sacrament" or mysterion. It points to the call to sanctify the whole world, and in particular to use material and visible means as signs for disclosing the presence of God's spiritual and invisible reality. When we speak in Orthodoxy about "transfiguring teh cosmos" - in that God's ultimate goal is to bring everything into his kingdom- we are speaking "sacramentally."
