Isi artikelConstance Milbrath, like many other osychologusts and art educatorsm studies the development of artistically talented children. She seeks to clarify the individual differences that distinguish artistically talented children from their less talented cousins. The detailed material that milbrath presents will delight the reader with the children's life stories and the inventiveness and accomplishment of their drawings. Her thesis restated throughout the book is that artistically talented and less talented children follow different developmental paths because these two groups rely on two distict ways of thinking about and responding to the visual world. The author produces evidence to show that visually talented children have a heightened figural sinsitivity, while less talented children respond to and create images largely on the basis of operative or conceptual thinking. Referring to piaget (1977), milbrath defines these two sorts of thought processes : Figurative thought relates to the mental reproduction of objects, events and relationships experienced in the world, not to their transformation .....
