Isi artikelAs a formal discipline, rhetoric is the study of the structure of cuommunication, particularly the ways in which words are used to convey a message or an argument. Scholars in this field are especially concerned with the ways in which narrative, written or otherwise is constructed to impart the audience. These also are vital questions to scholars in a variety of other fields, of course and particularly to historians, who are continually faced with the challenge of interpreting the meaning that tests have held for tboth their authors and audiences. It is a welcome event, in that case, when an expert on rhetoric proposes to examine historical documents and to tell us something about the discource on a particular topic in the distant past .....
