I must thank the editors of this journal for having selected such a rich pair of books to review. Addiss and Erikson's art history and education and hooper greenhill's museum and gallery education were probably never meant to be treated as a package. Published two years and an ocean apart, by two different university presses, they do seem at first to be, though plainly not unrelated, quite independent works. I ws delighted to see what a useful pair they make. The interesting thing for me was that while they probably work quite well as introductoru textbooks in art education and museum studies cources, respectiveky, I also had the feeling thatyou had to have been there, really to appreciate the thoroughness and the insights these two books offer. they are excellent refresher cources for people who have been working in museum education for years .....
