Understanding what dewey really menat in his magisterial tome of that title eluded most americans, including the nascent group of professional educators. Without a clear understanding of grammar in the title, they change the conjugnciton and to the preposition in and did not believe they had changed the meaning. Rather they and their non educator neighbors came to accept that democracy in education meant keeping more children in school longer. This, they believed was a good idea for american young people and for american democracy .....
