Isi artikel
The objective of this study was to discover the steps taken by parents to improve their children's prospects in life. Putukrejo village, kalipare districts, malang regency was chosen purposely as the area of study. The sample consisted of 75 households, of which 2- were poor and 53 were in a higher income bracket. The respondnets for each household were father, mother and children over 5. Descriptive analyses, multiple regression and logit models were used to find the factor effects on the probability of mothers' participation in family planning. The results of this study show that mothers' participation in family planning programmes was one of the ways taken to give their children a better life in the future (in health, intelligence, and future prospects). The main factors that influence the probability of a mother's participation in family planning are, the length / level of her education and the number of children in the family. The better a mother's education and the larger the number of children in a family, the higher the probability of the mother participating in family planning. The higher the mother's education level the smaller the family. The number of childrn bornto mothers marries at 16 or older was less than the number of children born to mothers who were married at ages under 16. Higher income bracket families had more children than poor families. Those parents still strongly influenced by javanese culture / custom, namely the more children they have the larger the income / labour firce to support the family, also have arge families. The necessity for work has a negative effect on a child's chances of completing formal education beyong primaryschool level. The higher the renumeration the smaller the likelihood of continuing formal education beyond elementary level. On the other hand, the higher the mother's education level the more likely her child will continue with education beyond primary school.
