The DOTS strategy has been nationallyImplemented to control 18 problem In Indonesia since 1995. WHO defines case detection rate (CDR) and cure rate as main Indicators to assess the achievement of the program. The national program does not yet reach the CDR defined target that is 70% by the end 2005. The provinces report a low case detection rate of approximately 40%. The low case detection rate is of particular concern to control the transmission of disease. The purpose of this study was to identify the patterns of health seeking behaviour among suspected 18 case in which one of the risk factor relates to case detection rate of 18. Cross~naJ study Is employed to achieve the objective. This study was carried out In Banggai Kepulauan disbict, Q!ntral of Celebes province, using total population aged more than 14 years old. There were 435 suspected 18 cases. Thirty six suspected cases (8.28%) did nothing related to seeking any medical help, meanwhile 71 suspected cases did treatment by hlm/her-self, and 9 suspected cases went to traditional healing. Almost half of respondent went to private medical practice such as private doctor or midwife. Only 27.8% of respondents went to govemment health facilities like public health centre (PHC) and auxiliary PHC (sub-PHC). Factors related to health seeking behaviour are level of education and perception on fatality of the disease.(JumalEpidemiologl Indonesia Volume 8 Edisi 3 -2006: 1 - 5)
