Remarkable efforts to increase the production of iodized salt were made by the Central Government with the World Bank support, and 115 salt plants were renovated to improve production capacity,iodization and packaging. Table 1 shows the rapid progress in increasing the iodized salt supply for human consumption, which, since 1999,is adequate to reach the goal of USI (1,5).
